One of France’s greatest cities, home to the European Parliament, a major port and a huge student population.
It can be forgiven for being a little confused about its identity, having being absorbed by Germany and then back to France on a number of occasions, since 1871. |

DAILY BUDGET in STRASBOURG - In this sophisticated city with all there is to see, do, eat and drink in, including decent accommodation work on a budget of around US$50. |
Explore - The city is filled with amazing buildings and squares which can all be taken in by just strolling around.
Palais de Rohan - A definite ‘must’ stands south of the Strasbourg Catherdal. Noted for its facades and rococo interior, this is one of the crowning design achievements in eastern France.
Place de la Catherdale - For great outdoor entertainment in the summer, Place de la Catherdale is where it all happens. An assortment of artists and performers can be seen doing what they do best and if this is not enough, check out the international folk dancing troupes at the Palais des Rohan.

A la Barrie’re - 3 route de Strasbourg - for a sophisticated menu at prices which won’t empty the pocket, you could try their roast lamb with potato casserole or pheasant and venison.
Brasserie de l’Ancienne Douane - 6 rue de la Douane - the largest eating house in Strasbourg, seating 600 inside and 200 on the terrace. Try their sauerkraut, foie gras, chicken in Riesling with noodles or the onion pie.
Maison des Tanneurs - 42 rue du Bain-Plantes - opening onto the canal, this popular restaurant serves dishes such as sauerkraut and pork platters, crayfish tails and delicious chicken stew.

Le Gayot - If jazz is your buzz you may like to take in the cool sounds at Le Gayot - 18 rue des Fre’res or Le Bistro Piano Bar - 5 rue Ste-Catherine.
Le Blue-B - If its dancing and disco you are after try out the Le Blue-B - 1 rue du Miroir. Entrance is free every night except Friday and Saturday. Very raucous and brash.
Chalet - 376 route de Wantzenau - two dance floors featuring techno in one section and disco classics in the other.
