Damascus – Believed to be the world’s oldest city with a continuous inhabitation from the earliest days of its beginnings to modern times, Damascus is overflowing with history and relics.
Aleppo – Covered souks, museums and a citadel, Syria’s second largest city has been around a long time as well, and has been a trading centre since Roman times.
Krak des Chevaliers – This Crusader castle is in perfect nick and looks just as it did when it guarded the only major pass between Turkey and Lebanon 800 years ago.
Palmyra – This is one of Syria’s most important sites, and great place to see ruins that date from the 2nd century AD.
Bosra – This strange place is built out of black basalt and seems to have ancient roman ruins growing under, around and from it. Weird, smokin’ weird. It does have some of the finest and best-preserved ruins in the country though. |

DAILY BUDGET in SYRIA - Budget in the region of US$30-40 a day for a room with private bathroom and to enjoy some restaurant meals, it is possible to scrape by for US$15-20 a day, but it is not advisable. |
| Mild temperatures and winter rains make April to June the best time to visit, and September to November in autumn is another time when the weather is pleasant. The main holidays of Syria are Islamic and dates change according to their calendar. |
