Tokyo Travel Guide for backpackers

This hughmungous concrete jungle, possibly one of the ugliest cities in the world, the living space for almost a quarter of Japan’s population is also one of the safest cities in the world. And the people are groovy; friendly, honest and very helpful, so have a cool time in this wonderful city that never sleeps. Densely packed with concrete and very few parks to break the monotony of highrise buildings, there are a few places like Asakusa and Yanaka that will take you a whole world away. Getting to know the real Tokyo is a fun experience.

DAILY BUDGET in TOKYO - Well it ain’t cheap in Japan so maybe budget for USD80 or rather USD90 a day.

Sensoji Temple – The home of Kannon, the Buddhist goddess of mercy and happiness is the oldest temple in Tokyo. A well-known temple; been around some time too – since the year 628.

Koishikawa Korakuen Garden – Some dude started this styling garden way back in the 17th century and now you can cool it here far from the madding crowd.

Tsukiji Fish Market – This stunning fish market in a massive building is something else – Take your camera – it’s amazing to see what people will eat.

Meiji Shrine - Located inside a manmad forest, this place is amazing. Once you entered the Shrine compound, it is so tranquil that you'll forget that you're in the middle of one of the world's busiest city. Located near Harajuku.
Add your favourite free attraction!

Anderson – On Aoyama Dori, Harajuku – Self-serve deli and bakery with a groovy sandwich bar. Got to shop around for good value and this is one of those joints.

Taimeikon – 1-12-10 Nihombashi – in the same building as the kite museum, an old joint but it’s good for quick, simple, inexpensive graze.

Farm Grill - 3-8-5 Ginza – Plain grub, cool for the hungry ones on a tight budget. Find a seat in this large, spacious joint and still those hunger pangs.
Add your favourite cheap eat!

Oh God – 6-7-18 Jingumae – you can mellow out here ‘cos it won’t cost so much. With two pool tables and free movies, hey dude, what could be better.

What the Dickens – 1-13-3 Ebisu Nishi – Brit beer on tap, good pub grub and reggae, pop and rock to grind to well, it’s a bit of all right.

Hideout Bar – 3-14-9 Roppongi – Cheap booze and loud music is on the menu here. By midnight it’s so crowded you just dance where you are.
