Turin Travel Guide for backpackers


Located on the Po River, Turin is a well planned city with wide streets, squares and parks, The centre of Turin is where you find the city of yesteryear with grand churches and palaces which architecture will take you back into time. Turin is known as the Car Capital if Italy. Fiat, owned by the powerful Agnelli family is here and Turin is known as a very rich and flourishing industrial hub. Fiat owns Lancia and Alpha Romeo and Ferrari too. Turin has also been named as the host city for the 2006 Winter Olympics.

Museo dell”Automobile - Corso Unita d'Italia - Italy's one and only car museum is a groovy experience even for those who know nothing about cars.

Parco del Valentino - one of the largest parks in Italy also has two castles worth a visit.

Pallazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi - designed by Juvarra in 1730 has been proclaimed a world heritage site.

Rosticceria - Via Gramsci - A popular place, crowded at lunchtime. Serves everything and it's not expensive.

La Ruota - Via Barbaroux - for a quick lunch, take away or eat in.

Papillon - Via Corte d'Appello - They serve full meals, sandwiches and snacks.

AEIOU - Via Spanzetti - a cool place to go dancing. They serve a wide selection of cocktails.

Roar Roads - Via Carlo Alberta - This pub is popular with tourists and locals. Good vibes.

The Shamrock Inn - Corso Vittorio Emanuele - If you want an Irish stout and good sandwiches. Comes to life around 10.00 at night and is popular with the locals.
