| Every dream you've had about Venice comes true when you visit it. The place is exactly as it is in every advert, postcard or photo you have ever seen. It is also outrageously expensive, and crammed with tourists. Still, Venice is not to be missed, after all it has been around a long time and much has happened in its long history. |

 DAILY BUDGET in VENICE - Don't try to get by on anything less than US$48 a day which will give you hostels, self catering and tight control of your purse strings. US$150 a day will provide more comfort, more entry fees to attractions and a few restaurant meals. |
Canal Grande - You have seen it in films and you have seen it in your dreams, now come and enjoy it, gondolas and all.
Cannaregio - In this northernmost part of Venice you can get away from the scourge of tourism and check out the Ghetto, and some great buildings.
Rialto - A fruit and veg market that has been around since 1300, fortunately their produce is a lot fresher, the Rialto is both a tourist attraction and a good place to stock the larder.

Food Markets - Buy your food from a food market or shop and then enjoy a picnic.
Ai Promessi Sposi - At Calle dell'Oca 4367, for traditional fish dish this bar cum trattoria serves a decent portion for a reasonable price.
Antica Mola - At Fondamenta degli Ormesini 2800, you can find good food ant a good price.

Osteria alla Fontana - Located at Fondamenta di Cannaregio 1102, this is a great place for drinking or having a meal, with a small bar and good kitchen.
Le Notti d'Oriente - Located at Fondamenta delle Misericordia 2578, recommended for its entertainment and late night bar, although it does also serve Middle Eastern food.
Al Vecio Penasa - Located at Calle delle Rasse 4587, this excellent bar also serves sandwiches.
Havana Club - Small bar/club open late. Live local jazz band performs weekly. Was the most hoppin spot in town when I visited last March.
