Students & Traveller's Inn, Athens - Reviews & Contact Details
All I can do is add my voices to the ones already here. The rooms were small and bare, but they were perfectly clean-I watched a woman come in and clean ours. The staff was always helpful and very pleasant. The people staying there were great, and the courtyard was a great place to sit in the middle of the day when it was sweltering hot with some water and some postcards. I never saw a cockroach, nor had any dirty bedding. I thought it was great, and feel very nostalgic. If I ever make it back to Athens, I will definitely stay there again.
I agree with everyone else. I had a great time at this hostel - the owners were really nice, i got there at like 11 pm and they had no rooms so they gave my friends and I mattresses for 10 euros and let us use the internet as well as book ferry tickets through them at this late time in the night. I am returning this summer because it is such a good price and it is in the best location.
This person must have stayed at a different place than I did. The rooms although small were clean, the bathrooms clean and the staff very accommodating. The location was great - close to everything that you want to see in Athens and in the heart of the city.
I stayed in here December 05 and have to agree with the Boss of this place. I don't know where the first reviewer stayed but I thought the review was pretty unjust and didn't sound like the same place at all. I'd definitely be back, and there were alot more than just 1 bathroom on the 1st floor and they were clean!!
As the owner of two hostels in Athens for over 30 years, I have to say IF this totally inaccurate review posted by this disgruntled guest was actually true, I would not still be in business after 30 years, NOR have continued guests returning year after year.
AVOID THIS PLACE!
This hostel is the worst place for backpackers I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I had to stay there for 4 nights because I had a reservation - otherwise I would have moved elsewhere.
This was the overwhelming luxury I experienced in this hostel for really extortionate prices:
- dirty, filthy blankets in the bed
- disgustingly dirty toilets in the shared bathrooms (and only one shower for the 1st floor!)
- no hot water available for 2 of 4 mornings during my stay although "24 hours hot Water" was advertised
- the rubbish bin has not been emptied for 4 days (I didn't expect daily roomservice, but at least this would have been nice... consider the price to pay for one night!)
- unpolite answers from one member of the staff when asking for the most simple information (other staff members where quite nice)
- not a single hook on the walls, wether in the shared nor in the private bathrooms nor in any room at all, so it was impossible to keep your clothes and towels from getting wet
- a window that was fixed and open all the time with the noisy Kidathineon street just below
- and the cream of the crop: cockroaches in the bathrooms!!! These DISGUSTING insects had the size of a thumb! They were everywhere! It was DISGUSTING!!!
I had to pay 56 Euros per night (that is 28 Euros per person) in October 2004 for a double bed room with private bathroom. The only advantage is the location in the middle of the Plaka. But if you want to enjoy your stay in Athens you should consider to spend some 10 to 20 Euros more per night and enjoy the comfort of a real hotel with clean facilities! I've seen a lot of other backpacker hostels in Europe, so I think I'm able to compare the standards and services. After this experience I just have to repeat: AVOID THIS PLACE!

It is hard to look past this newly renovated building situated in the heart of Plaka and run by a great team who are very knowledgeable about all facets of information. The Student's Inn is conveniently situated close to bus, metro, banks, laundries, mail facilities, supermarkets and loads of shopping. The Plaka is the oldest section of Athens. Most of the streets have been closed to traffic, though you should still keep a watchful eye for a speeding motorcycle or delivery truck. It is an area full of restaurants, tourist shops, and cafes, and just 15 minutes walk from the Acropolis. We have private rooms for 2,3 or 4 people and dorm rooms. Some rooms with private facilities. Rooms air-conditioned. Some rooms with balconies.
The Student &Travellers Inn can also offer a wide range of services. Reception open 24 hours No lock outs, no curfew. Internet available 24 hours. International telephone. Direct/Collect(anytime) all code’s available.
Wide range of food available. Hot showers (24 hours). Travel Services. Left luggage (Luggage storage) Short or long term (max. 3 months). Free lock-up for valuables. Fax facilities (send and receive). Wake-up calls.
