Arpacay Hostel, Prague - Reviews & Contact Details
The hostel is fine but watch out as in 10 days we had things stolen twice. Staff were not interested and would not bring in the police. In those 10 days, phones, ipods, cloths and even Andrex toilet roll were stolen. Girls say the robbers a girl and man looking like backpacker but they knew their way around.
Here is the experience that I had at Arpacay hostel.
First of all the rooms are clean, the facilities are all fine but something happened at this hostel that put me off ever going there again and makes me strongly suggest that you do not go.
On the second night of staying in the Arpacay hostel (the second building with the reception on the third floor) two IPODS were stolen, these were not mine but belonged to two American girls in our room. My phone was stolen and also my headphones. We assumed that this was "just bad luck" and as it was our first hostel and backpacking trip we assumed it must just happen a lot. We stayed in the same hostel for 11 days, very strange I know, we intended to go to Poland too but those plans fell apart. The hostel would not call the police for us even though they understood what had gone on, they told us to seek out the police station and when we got there they did not speak English and so did not understand us (thanks Arpacay hostel for being so helpful).
Exactly one week later the same thing happened, two IPODs were stolen and my friend’s phone. I went home on this day but the story continues as told by my friend. My friend told the hostel as did the two girls whose IPODS were stolen but the hostel did not care, they told my friend to go to the police but after my experience the week before he refused and asked them to call the police to the Hostel to do an inspection. After much reluctant arguing involving such points as "it's not our fault so why would we call the police" they did eventually do the right thing and call them. An American guy on our floor said that he had gone to the toilet during the night and he saw a guy standing in the kitchen and a girl rummaging through bags unfortunately he thought they were just travelers as everyone went in and out so often and it didn't seem strange. The police would later tells us that one of them had used a knife to saw off the lock into rooms five to seven.
Unfortunately they were thief’s, who seem to visit the hostel every week but due to the reluctance of the hostel nothing is ever done. The hostel said you should have locked your things in the lockers, fair play, but the girl opposite to me had her IPOD stolen from under her pillow, which was under her head and her key (including locker key) from the same place.
The security is atrocious in this hostel and I think that this will be any travelers first concern. I would not recommend staying at this very unsafe hostel.
