The White Tulip is a combination of a small hotel and a youth hostel enabling you to rent a room or just a bed, as you wish. The hotel has 14 rooms with the capacity of 72 beds and we are open 24 hours a day. In this location, one can find a variety of bars, restaurants and shopping centers. The back door of the hotel is facing the famous Oude Kerk, the oldest church in Amsterdam, is now a centre of cultural activities in the heart of the old town centre.

The hostel was great! Some of the staff was very unfriendly, however, other staff members were very helpful! We arrived with no luggage because the airport lost it. The man working the counter was very helpful on our behalf to make sure we recieved our luggage. Within 3 nights our luggage was in our possesion. Also, the loacatin is prime! A bar is loacated underneath and a 25% discount is given if you sleep at the white tulip. There are multiple cafes on the street for every pleasure you desire. The time we spent at the White Tulip was great! Free internet is offered for laptops but they also offer a computer in the hallway for free use as well. There isnt a common room to hang out in but the rooms with 12 beds come with plenty of floor space, a table and chairs. We were able to drink, smoke, and have agreat time in our room! ill be back soon

I had to pay 40 euros for one night in one bed in a 10 beds dorm, without breakfast. That is quite a lot, even if I was there on a special day, it was queens day. They kicked me out of my bed at 10:15 in the morning. Search for something better!

This was one of the best hostel experiences I've ever had. I'd highly recommend this to anyone travelling to Amsterdam. Some details: LOCATION: In the red light district. Above a bar (4-5pm and 8-9pm happy hour) and right next to anything and everything the red light district has to offer. Nice short walk to the Centraal Station. The street outside can get someone loud but nothing that an active day, and extreme tiredness can't fix. The local church gets really annoying really quickly but that's a product of the city planning and affects most hostels. CLEANLINESS: Beds were cleaned prior to arrival. Other people had to wait a little bit before the cleaner people showed up. Room was occassionally cleaned. FACILITIES: This hostel does not have a kitchen nor a fridge. The tiled bathroom is beautiful though. Sparkling clean with 4 individual showers on each floor, 4 urinals, and 4 sinks with mirrors. All that you can ask for. ROOMS: 4-5 bunk beds in each room with a table and a few chairs in the middle. Average. Nothing bad at all. LOCKERS: 6 tall, 7 foot lockers in each room. Our room had 4 of the 6 lockers working. Key locks were available for rent. SECURITY: This is probably the most important reason to pick this hostel. In order to get in you first have to ring a doorbell. Then you have to go inside and present a validated card that the hostel gives to you. Upon validation that the card is legit, you are buzzed upstairs. The room to your beds is electronically locked and needs a 6 number combination to unlock. All this coupled with the lockers makes it completely safe from random people. Oh, and random note. DO NOT eat the breakfast downstairs at the bar. Although the cheap (3.50 euro) price might be tempting, be prepared to wait anywhere from 15-60 minutes for 3 slices of ham, 3 slices of cheese, a slice of cantelope, and an egg on occassion. Not worth it. The 25% discount is for breakfast only; not for drinks.

The accomdations were pretty good, but the staff was incredibly rude and unfriendly, except for a lady named Liza, my entire stay of 11 nights. Right when I walked through the door I felt unwelcome. Also after I left I was adding the reciepts from them and the pub "slainte", and realized I had been overchrged and good luck getting a refund from these guys. When I checked out I had to argue with the guy at the front desk to get the deposit back on the padlock I had gotten when I arrived. I thought these were just my ill tidings, but talking with other people who were staying there also I found out it wasn't just me. Nearly everybody I talked too had some sort of problem with this hostel. Again I have to say that the hostel itself is nice it's just the people who work there that are intolerable.
