the place is awesome the staff friendly and very helpful. i travelled through south america last year and it was by far the best hostel experienced that i had. Im coming back in january while we are on oour way to carnival.

I've been there and it's really nice. Oh, and if you don't like Uruguay then get the hell out of there. I'm Uruguayan and I'm proud of it. Where are you from? Don't tell me you're from the US because then I wouldn't know why you're saying Uruguay sucks.

I totally agree. In fact, the entire country sucks. Can you believe here in Uruguay everubody is proud of it? I live in Uruguay and the people here sucks, and everything else sucks, the whole country is a lot of crap. And by the way, the good reviews are mock, the owners wrote them.

It's awfull, dirty, is nobody's land. It is well located but the place sucks.

1949 Hostel is an historical house built over 50 years ago.It is in the center of Punta del Este, 50 meters of the beach. It was originally opened by Jacobo and from 1949 he took care of all weary travellers until 1998 when it's doors were closed. In 2004 we decided to continue the traditional of the first owner, Jacobo and reopen as a hostel. While it maintains it's old charm it also has the modern comforts that travellers require while passing through. For your comfort we have a tranquil atmosphere and chill out areas with T.V, DVD, games and books. We are located on the corner and have a cool bar with views to the sea and the beach.
