Andes Lodge is a new, family run venture in the unspoilt village of Yanama, just twenty minutes outside the Huascaran National Park. It offers guests a rare opportunity to experience life in a traditional Andean community and to explore the beautiful countryside in which the lodge is set. Whether you want a relaxing break or are looking for something more active – walking, biking or climbing – Yanama can provide it.

I stayed here recently with some friends and had such a good time that I wanted to recommend it to others. It´s a new place set in a small village outside Peru called Yanama. It´s off the beaten track but is great for anyone who wants to see an untouristed Andean village. We were the only tourists there! the village is very traditional so you hear lots of the locals speaking Quechua and most of the ladies wear the traditional dress. Another plus is that to get there you go through the Huascaran National Park so get to see the Llanganuco Lakes on the way plus all the mountains in the park. The lodge is managed by a young Peruvian guy who is really friendly and knowledgeable about the area as he grew up in the village where the lodge is located. We did some walking around the lodge and the countryside there is beautiful - we went to some nearby lakes and ruins. It´s close to the Huascaran National Park for trekking there but we didn´t have time although we plan to go back. The hostel is really good quality and the food (included in the price) is all home-cooked and very good. It has great beds with duvets and 24 hot water that is really hot, not just tepid! Definitely worth a visit if you want to see a real Andean village that the tourists haven´t discovered yet!
