If any one of you have seen the true story of the Bridge on the River Kwai, you would be fascinated to visit this place. Located on the west of Thailand touching the Burma border, Kanchanaburi is a well travelled tourist spot in Thailand. But I had my own reasons to see this place. The movie shows the will and determination of British POW's to work with honour despite being in the face of war. So if you see the movie and decide to visit this place, you will probably go with a sense of pride as well. But after going there the entire excitement turns into a sad story of tragic human loss most of which is even unaccounted for. THe entire railway known as the Death Railway was built in the most adverse conditions entirely using human labour. In all 200000 lives were lost, including Asian Labourers and POW's consisting of British, Australian, America and Indian Soldiers. What stands today is part of the railway still in use along with the famous bridge (which has two reconstructed iron spans, which were originally blown by US bombers in 1945 ). Other than this there are 106 cemeteries all across the Railway. Places to see are though the Bridge, Jeath war museum, War cemetry, the War museum next to it and Wat Thampong which is known for the floating nun performances.
