Mi llegua bonita - Chile
by Andren Appelquest | Date > 2006-08-18 | Country : Chile | City : Punta Arenas | Area : Patagonia
After traversing the Chilean Archipelago from Pto. Montt to Puerto Natales aboard the ferry Magallanes I found myself in the arms of a stranger. The truth was stranger, yet. Carolina is a precocious young lady, intelligent, friendly and a drop dead knock out. Here I am, mid-50s and she mid-20s, and we were fascinatingly in love for three days, ending with streaked tears as I boarded LAN Chile to leave this dot of paradise and stared at her, longing...solamente una vez. But I get ahead of myself. The stay in Pto. Montt was a pleasant 3 days in a hostel owned by Veronica. Boarding was cold, it's always cold there during their summer. But we, 40 folks from around the world, of all ages and genders, hung together, hurled together and insidiously sought solace together behind the curtain of a bunk in the dormitory room. You eat veggie, you get veggie with a smile. Unless you convince yourself that the scenery stops after the 1st three hours, every island holds new mysteries for those of us with unchained imaginations. Docking at Pto. Natales was crude but safe in 70 kph winds, to wit, we did not dock but rather rode the tender in. It took 7 trips from the ferry. But I get behind in my story. Carolina and her female friend entered a Pta. Arenas eatery and light imbibing palace. We caught each the other's eye, and were off to the races. Mostly off to visit the elegant cemetary next day and the penguin colony. Late one afternoon we stripped to underthings and joined the sea. Hooey!!! and again Hoohah!! She remarked that I was the 24th nationality not excused from scrotal minimization, only Colombian men and Ghanese boys actually experience fallic growth in 38 degree water. But I get almost abreast of myself, and it's time to return to TX and NASA. Have just seen the Feb. 1 2003 local paper headlines, Space Shuttle Columbia is no more.
