Ten Lakes Spectacular Tour - This very popular tour gives a fantastic insight to the main lakes of the area. Starting with Windermere as the tour goes north, you travel through Ambleside and on past Rydal Water to Grasmere. Crossing Dunmail Raise pass you will descend to take the back road around Thirlmere, avoiding the main road traffic. From here you will make a stop at the Castlerigg Stone Circle, 4000 years old, with views in all directions of the compass.
An early lunch stop is made in the market town of Keswick, known as the Queen of the Lakes. You have time to explore this attractive town.
Enjoy a circular tour of the north western fells, driving alongside Derwentwater and crossing Honister Pass into remote and beautiful Buttermere. The next lake passed along side of is Crummock Water, so like a Scottish loch, and then enter the very fertile Vale of Lorton before traversing Whinlatter Pass. Soon, Bassenthwaite comes into view, the only lake in the Lake District.
Our return to Windermere starts with the journey over Matterdale common, offering wonderful views of High street as you drop down to Ullswater. Make a stop at Glenridding before driving past Brotherswater and climbing over the Kirkstone Pass and down through Troutbeck to Windermere.
