A View From the bar The Union inn I’d love to say I don’t usually venture out for a scoop or two on a school night but that would be lies damned lies. Anywho I decided to venture up to the Union and like the bard said new carpets, different furniture and new faces behind the bar, to those not local to the Union I’ve got to explain this place is like a bloody tardis, personally I have been going into the Union for the past 25 years (not bad as I’m only 31) and without rambling on about the past, the place has undergone massive changes in that time. There is plenty of seating plenty of bar to lean on, pool, darts and a big arsed beer garden for summer use. Being an ale man I decided on the Robinsons Double hop asked for a pint and got a pint and a half for the price of a pint (me thinks I’m gonna like this place) just because the Landlady Carly felt it had been sitting a while in the lines, the new owners obviously take pride in the beer they are serving as it is possibly the best pint of Robinsons I’ve ever had. I digress. The range of beers are; Hartleys XB,Oldham Bitter, Smooth, Double hop, Carling, Stella, Guinness and Strongbow , Again a decent range of bottled beers and only a couple of alcopops. Just an observation I’m beginning to notice a common thing in good pubs, the fridges aren’t crammed full of bloody alcopops. They also have a massive range of spirits and a good selection of malts for those who prefer the strong stuff. Unlike what has been written in our local rag describing the Union as empty, I found it quite the opposite; friendly owners, friendly customers brilliant beer that’s well kept. We had a bloody good night, we will definitely be returning on a Non School Night to enjoy the ambiance and warmth of this fine local ale house. So come on peeps, come and see us at the Union, So until next time, enjoy your beer, love laugh and be merry because this isn’t a dress rehersal. The lardy pub man
