Medalla

RATING > 7 - by george solotso | Date > 2004-10-09
This beer is surprisingly good and for the price you can't go wrong. For the weather in puerto rico is the best thing to drink, it's like a refreshment it just cools you off and it's still a beer.

RATING > 9 - by Rob Pearson | Date > 2005-04-03
Just came back from P.R. This was a great beer; a light beer as well. American brewers can learn from this beer. I think the infamous, "taste loss" commercials should change from Miller Lite to Medalia Light. It's even better on tap!

RATING > 10 - by tamary | Date > 2005-04-24
Is the best beer that I ever taste!!!

RATING > 7 - by Braz | Date > 2005-06-21
It grows on you….. like a fungus on a sloth….. great with mofungo and other plantain dishes.

RATING > 10 - by Manuel | Date > 2005-07-30
Hey I was in Puerto Rico and I was screaming for a beer, I went into a bar and I ask for a beer and they gave the local beer and guess what it was a Medalla dammmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!, I had 18 of them.....

RATING > 8 - by Gerry | Date > 2005-10-05
The best light or American Pilsner style I have had. It is smooth and lacks any of the high adjuct taste present in american pilsner beers. I wish it was available stateside.

RATING > 8 - by Don | Date > 2005-10-05
I must agree with the majority here, Medalla Light was an enjoyable beer while I was in Puerto Rico, The only problem is that you can't find it in the states. I think they could help the economy over there if they decided to export the beer as well as the fine brands of rum. Just a thought....

RATING > 8 - by David Harrow | Date > 2005-10-07
I am a bit biased after spending a good amount of time in England, but this beer isnt bad. Compared to imported stuff its quite good. And the important thing is its very cheep.

RATING > 8 - by Stephen Savage | Date > 2005-11-19
Really good domestic beer. I'd buy it all the time if sold here in the States (New England area). Like Bud, but a lot better and lighter.

Hello, I been trying to find the manufactors of Medalla Beer or how can I purchace this beer product? can you please connect me or email me the contact person? Thanks You Roberto

RATING > 8 - by JuanMa | Date > 2006-02-11
Well this is a LIGHT beer. But for being light it does have good taste (and low calories if you're counting). Of course you cant compare it to other beers like Samuel Adams, Bass, Guiness etc...they're in whole another class. I for one like it. It has a very peculiar taste, even though it's light, you can instantly know its Medalla. Compared to other light beers in constant heavy promotion (like Coors, Bud, Miller, etc.), it's so much better! BTW: It recently won a medal in Belgium for best light beer. You just don't give away those.

I guess I am biased since my family lives there. But every year I go there and I have to have that beer with empanadillas and assorted seafood fritters. It is such a refreshing light taste that goes so well with these foods. Or just to cool off on those hot days by Boqueron Beach (West Coast of Puerto Rico) . Maybe I can ask my family to send some over. Everyone has to try this beer.

Recently I have found out that Cerveceria India/Medalla Light is treating their employees with severe opression, surveillance. They refuse to give their empleyees a fair salary increase. It really makes me sad because this is OUR beer, this is what we feel proud of. I hope this could end soon. Good luck to all of those good employees that make that wonderful beer.

I just got back from Puerto Rico, and I will admit that I am no Beer Connisuer (or however you spell it), and most beers, I don't really like the taste of, but when I was down there, and I asked for a beer, they handed me a Medalla Light. I was like, ahh what the hell and i drank it, and it tasted awesome. Love that stuff.

RATING > 10 - by jill | Date > 2006-05-04
Great beer!!! Medalla is awesome. I wish I could buy it in New Jersey

RATING > 10 - by Javo Diaz | Date > 2006-05-09
Im from puerto rico, and seeing all this people praising my national beer makes me sentimental. Its true that Medalla is the best light beer in the world, i tell ya, bud light sucks bad, and lets not even mention coors light (yuck). As for pur rum, truly the best caribbean rum around, bacardi, don Q they just cant get better. Remember the pirates around the caribbean used to drink rum... yoho a pirate's life for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great beer, always wondered though why they came in 10oz instead of 12 oz cans when I was there!

How can I find Medalla beer ?? I live in New Jersey. Do they sell it anywhere in the sates? Thanks

RATING > 3 - by Chris Wagner | Date > 2006-05-27
I find this beer to be very lacking in tast, especially Medalla lite. The up side is the price. It is cheeper than water.

RATING > 10 - by Amy Hook | Date > 2006-06-01
I lived in Puerto Rico for year, Medalla was easily my favorite beer. It is very smooth and delicious! I actually have cravings for it now that I am back in Kansas. I am trying to find out where I can buy it in the states-it is that good!

RATING > 10 - by Brian Joseph | Date > 2006-06-08
As luck would have it, I 've just read a report in the New York Times (June 2, 2006) that Molson Industries is going to handle the introduction of Medalla Beer in the U.S. Inititally, it will only be sold in Puerto Rican markets or areas with large concentrations of hispanics. I can't wait!

A lesson in Spanish Cerveza = Beer Cerveza Cerveza = Medalla Beer I'm always hoping to find this incredible tasting beer in some bar in the USA. So far, Not lucky.

just got back from 10 days in P.R. I am already craving a Medalla. We own a bar and I am calling everyone to try and get a couple of cases. I also told all my wifes relatives when they come to visit us, they have to bring a case.

I just got back from PR and I have to say that i was very happy with Medalla. I had never had it until I was there, but I drank it almost nighlty. Its now one of my favorites, but not my favorite........MODELLO ESPECIAL.

RATING > 10 - by Willy | Date > 2006-07-07
It is a great beer but it is a lot better on tap, can you imagine! I just had to write something after reading all these great reviews a bout a Puerto Rican Product. Thanks for those of you who can recognized quality. I traveled to some places US, Europe and Soth America and tried many beers and had great ones and Medalla still one of my top 5 favorites. Yep, I'm Puerto Rican and after many years living and enjoying the US I'm back able to taste my Medallita!!!!

I just got back from Puerto Rico. The only beer I drank in Old San Juan, Caguas, Isla Verde or ANYWHERE there was Medalla Light...i LOVE my beer LIGHT and my liquor HARD! I wanted to make sure I had Medallas when I got home...so I brought a case of 24 beers through JFK Airport in NYC. I planned to have a cold beer everyday when I got home from work for the next 24 work days.....HOWEVER....I can't keep this beer to myself. This weekend I am watching the NY Giants vs the Colts on my TV and I'm gonna have my friends try el sabor de Puerto Rico....PS....I've been to Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Italy, England, Canada and I live in NYC....BUT the HOTTEST women are the boricuas living in Puerto Rico....caliente'!!!!

We were in Puerto Rico for a best friend vacation and fell in love with the beer and have been looking for it forever. Why is it not in the states? Look at all the people that would buy it on this site alone!

RATING > 10 - by Stephanie | Date > 2006-09-14
I came across this site and found it interesting that there are other people who found this beer as good as I did! I wish we could purchase it in the states!

RATING > 10 - by rdiaz | Date > 2006-10-06
Very good taste, and smooth at the same time. This is a light beer that exceeds, in terms of quality, light beers in the USA.

RATING > 8 - by Aaron | Date > 2006-09-21
My whole family loved this beer when we were in PR. I am unable to find it for sale in the states. However, I enjoy homebrewing my own beer and would like to clone this. I have found a company that sells an ingredient kit but the reviews for that kit compare it to Corona too much for my liking. Does anybody have any contact for Medalla Brewing company? I found an all grain recipe but I would like to send them an email and see if they will share some of their recipe, such as the type of hops used. My email is fezzman2 'at' hotmail.com. Please leave Medalla as the subject if you have any info. Thanks

Great beer, tastes like regular, its smooth, has body, its fullof flavour, you would never imagine its light. better than Carlsberg! and , good news, the brewery is expanding they just got these HUGE cylinders , taller than the building itself, they might internationalize the beer ;)

My wife and I discovered Medalla on our first cruise, in January of 1999. We flew to San Juan, and set sail that very day. On the ship (Royal Caribbean), they sold a bucket of five Medalla for $11.63. After our three-day cruise, we stayed on at the Hotel Caribe for a couple of nights, and everywhere we went, we sought out the cool, crisp, taste of the Medalla. We went on a tour of the Bacardi plant and our bus driver gave everyone a set of maracas made out of empty (: Medalla cans. We sure wish we could get Medalla here!

Definetively is a great beer. Last year the company was trying to export the beer for the latin market in United States. They were working with focus groups and importers companies to work for the marketing strategy. Moreover they are going through the expansion of the company, because right know the beer is so famous that they are selling almost 100 % of the production. I hoped I can finally find la medalla in the states.

Fantastic beer, my baseball team and I pollished off many cases of this while at a tournament in Feb. From what I have been told by my Puerto Rican friends you can find it in Spanish Harlem or Brooklyn, if you have the balls to go there and get it...

this is the best beer i have ever had, i wish it was sold in the states, this beer has a light taste with no after taste and you dont feel the bloated feeling after several, the folks in puerto rico served it ice cold and after working construction in the humidity down there it was definately something to look forward to, i can hardly wait to set up a vacation down there and spend some more time sipping some ice downs from p.r.

I love Medalla Light so much I am moving back to Puerto Rico, so I can become a professional beach bum...LOL Seriously, this is the best kept beer secret in the world. It is smooth and refreshing. This is the best beer I have had in years and we drink plenty of it when we are in P.R. visiting family every year. Find it, try it and I promise, you will not be disappointed.

RATING > 10 - by William Baines | Date > 2008-01-06
I agree that Medalla is great tasting beer. I spent a few months in Puerto Rico on business and while I was there that is all I drank. Finding it in the States can be difficult though. I remember one Puerto Rican restaurant on 9th Avenue in NYC, served it a few years back. Since there are very few bodegas within the five boroughs of NYC that are still Puerto Rican owned, there is really no way of finding it anymore. Prior to 9/11 I used to frequent a bogey in The Bronx that sold Medalla to his regular customers if they wanted it. He had his connections on the island ship it up here to him. I never asked how. since it is harder to get things on planes anymore the best way to get this great tasting cerveza is to have a friend or relative in PR mail it to you somehow. Love to have one right now with a plate of pernil, rice, and fried plantains. Hearing some Jibaro music while savoring this would be nice too!

The word on Medalla not being readily available in the United States is that the efforts of Cervezaria India (who manufactures Medalla) was thwarted by the Miller Brewing Comapny. Back in the 80s, Miller offered to be the importer (Puerto Rico is a colonial posession of the US, but not a state) and distributer of Medalla in the US. However, they quickly saw that Medalla was cutting into their Miller sales not just among Puerto Ricans but other Latinos that hung out with them (Dominicans, etc.). Something nasty happened in the contractual obligation between Miller and Cerv. India and the whole deal fell apart. Also, the US Government dictates what can and cannot be exported from Puerto Rico. It is a nasty situation. I will be looking into more detail on this in the near future. -- Rafael Merino Cortés, NY Latino Journal

Hi, I have got to say that the best beer i have ever tried from the lighter ones is Medalla Light. I actually live in Puerto Rico right now, and if anyone wants a case or two, you may contact me at pete_john@hotmail.com. I may be able to satisfy your desires of Medalla Light.

This is a good beer by most standards, and an exceptional light beer. It would be successful in the U.S.; no wonder Miller wants to keep it out. All we saw in P.R. was the light version - is there a regular Medalla?
