| Wickwar Cotswold Way in bottles is dreadful. I bought four bottles from Sainsbury’s, Hayes, and I couldn’t finish them. The beer is flat straight from the bottle and it tastes like something that was poured out the day before. From past experience, the sign of bad bottled ale is the yeast. If, instead of it settling in the bottle, it appears like dirty black ink swirling about, then the beer is poor. Wickwar Cotswold Way was just like that.
I am a supporter of small breweries, whereby if I see a new bottled ale then I will buy it because on occasions my local Sainsbury’s will get new beers in for a period, then when they have run out, they are never seen again. Wickwar was a big mistake, and I bought four bottles. Two went down the sink, the other two I took back for a refund.
If you want some Wickwar, take a dessertspoon from your kitchen, use it to dig up a reasonable amount of mud from your garden, stir it into a pint of water, and then drink the resulting product. Not nice? No, nor is Wickwar bottle conditioned (?) beer. |
